Netflix to make a series about János Hunyadi, the world-known Hungarian military leader and governor?
Csaba Káel, the government commission for developing the Hungarian national motion picture industry from August 2019, said in an interview that the coronavirus knocked out the Hungarian film industry. He talked about a Hungarian streaming service and mentioned that the Netflix might make a series about János Hunyadi, the worldwide-known Hungarian military leader from the 15th century who defeated the Ottoman Empire at the gates of Nándorfehérvár (Belgrade) in 1456 for which bells still ring at noon every day.
In 2019, the income of the sector reached 164.4 billion HUF (EUR 465.5 million) which means a 50 pc rise compared to 2018 – Csaba Káel told index.hu. He said that they worked a lot during the coronavirus epidemic because they had to write a COVID codex and reschedule the different productions of which the foreign ones left the country very quickly, but they are already at the starting line waiting for the pistol to go off. Since former US ambassador to Budapest,
Colleen Bell, became the director of the California Film Commission and she is a friend of Mr Káel, they would like to create strategic cooperation.
Mr Káel said that Hollywood makes content for the 11-21-year-olds and there is a revolution in the series sector. He said that Budapest is the most popular filming location in Europe after London and that many international institutions rediscover the masterpieces of the 1960s which was the golden era of the Hungarian series. He said that
they would like to help to create quality content in Hungary
but the distribution channel is irrelevant to them.
He added that they build four new studios to the two already existing in Fót because demand is so high that foreign productions sometimes expel Hungarian ones. Furthermore, they will concentrate on training film professionals, as well, because, based on some estimates, 20 thousand people work in the film industry, but even more could have a job there.
The Hungarian streaming website will launch at fall with the renewed movies of the Hungarian Film Archive. Furthermore, they would like to
give more money to the professional marketing of the productions
because that is how, for example, the Czechs can generate outstanding audience numbers. Mr Káel added that Europe should support European movies because that is how we can learn about how Germans, Italians or French people live today or think about the world.
He also said that even though his predecessor, Andy Wajna, did not believe in coproductions with the Czechs, the Austrians or the Poles, he is open to them. Csaba Káel cleared that they are in cooperation with Netflix concerning a lot of projects and one of them is a series about János Hunyadi, the Hungarian military leader and governor. He defeated the Ottoman Empire at the battle of Nándorfehérvár in 1456. Even Colleen Bell promised to support that project. He said that the main goal is to produce interesting content and for that,
a good screenplay is indispensable.

Stop using the interjection ‘Wow’. It is stupid and immature.
An often ignored fact by the Hungarians: Hunyadi János was Romanian
Romania did not exist at that time . Annexing territories does not give the right to stole the history !
Hey Szilagyi, no such thing as Romania in the 1400’s. Hunyadi was born in Transylvania. No matter where a Hungarian hero was born, he or she fought for and/or advanced the country of Hungary and/or advanced the culture of Hungary. Meaning, that they might not have been born in Hungary or born to Hungarians but their actions and love for the country made them Hungarian.
If Hunyadi was Romanian, I guess Pocahontas was a citizen of the United States. LOL!
So by your logic there were also no Jews before the founding of modern Israel in 1948? Likewise there are no Szekelys since there is no country named Szekelia? Just because the nation didn’t bear the same name at that time doesn’t mean the ethnicity didn’t exist. Even your historians don’t deny that the Huniade family are Catholic converts of Vlah origin aka Romanians from Wallachia. Or perhaps “Walachia fehér lovagja” has a different meaning than what I know.
